The origin of this podcast stems from where I can only imagine nearly every podcast has started…on your second glass of red wine. It was during this second glass that myself and company fell into a conversation of what it means to experience liberation. It is obvious that there is no real language for liberation, but surely we can use language and its inherent complexity that may inch ourselves closer to what that experience may be. It was at this point that I came to find an incredibly profound statement made by aborigine activist Lila Watson;

“Our liberation is bound in each other.”

In a seven word sentence, my understanding of what liberation is and its effect on others was changed. It became clear that liberation is not in fact solely individualistic - it is communal. In immediate thought, liberation and the experience of liberation seemingly starts and ends within the individual, however I am not so sure. It seems to me, that life is constantly attempting and grasping to manifest itself and when this manifestation occurs it is luminous and it is powerful, but fleeting. It is not until we extend our hands (directly or in directly) to our neighbors and to our immediate community, that liberation can truly be experienced. We are not free, until all are free.

This podcast is dedicated to the exploration of this prolific statement of Ms. Watson by interviewing people, about their everyday lives and unique experiences that has given them their individual experience of liberation, and in result, how it has manifested in their respective communities. Join us every other Tuesday (maybe with a little glass of red in hand) and hear what real people in the real world have to share.
